Philly stands strong as a Sanctuary City

Department of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson held a meeting with New Sanctuary Movement, the coalition Philadelphia Family Unity Network, Councilwoman Maria Quinones Sanchez, Councilwoman Helen Gym, representatives of Mayor Kenney’s office, and others. He came to convince us to give up our Sanctuary City policy and collaborate with ICE again through the Priorities Enforcement Program. We delivered a unified message to Secretary Johnson: NO MORE DEPORTATIONS! We are proud of our Sanctuary City policy – it makes our city safer, keeps families together by reducing deportations, and provides second chances as we refuse to let those who have made mistakes be punished twice with deportation.

After the meeting, Mayor Kenney reiterated that Philadelphia would remain a “Sanctuary City” because it makes our city safer for all.
